Making a real impact, one step at a time.
On the occasion of Women's Day, a one-day workshop was organized by SASATWA FOUNDATION in Raghurajpur. Many renowned artists from Odisha and outside Odisha participated in the workshop. Community engagement, often referred to as community relations, is a strategic, collaborative process that aims to build relationships, increase trust, and involve local populations in decision-making to improve their quality of life. Raghurajpur, located in the Puri district of Odisha, India, is a unique, award-winning heritage crafts village where every single household is involved in the art of Pattachitra painting and other handicrafts. From children to the elderly, every person in a family is often involved in some form of art. Women often prepare the canvas, while men handle the intricate painting and sales. While famous for Pattachitra, the village also specializes in Tussar painting, palm leaf engraving, stone carvings, paper-mâché masks, and cow-dung toys. The artists of Raghurajpur have a long-standing tradition of creating specific Pattachitra paintings used for the annual Ratha Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Puri. The artisans traditionally use natural colors derived from minerals, stones, and plants. A huge thank you to all the artists who attended the workshop. Special thanks to Shashimani Maharana and Pinki Tripathi.
We believe that consistent effort and community engagement are the keys to long-term success. Through this project, we are not just providing temporary relief, but building a foundation for a self-sustaining future.
